Tom Hamm’s Lighthouse Restaurant, 2150 Harbor Island Dr. (619-291-91100) is the winner of the 2006, 2007 and 2008 San DiegoRestaurantAssociation’s Gold Medallion Award for “Best Sunday Brunch Restaurant.”
Since 1971 Tom Ham’s has been one of San Diego’s best known landmark restaurants. It’s beautifully located on the western tip of Harbor Island on San Diego Bay, where it enjoys a fantastic view of the downtown skyline and the Coronado bridge. The restaurant boasts a Coast Guard-approved beacon, which is Beacon 9 on the nautical map. This makes it the only documented restaurant in the continental United States that is also a working, navigational lighthouse. To commemorate this, they serve a signature flashing cocktail appropriately named “Beacon #9.” Its historical early California theme underscores the cuisine. Delicious seafood entrées are crafted with care including their shrimp diablo, which are four stuffed jumbo Gulf shrimp, wrapped in bacon and served with riscotto and a medley of vegetables. Don’t miss one of their incredible desserts. For an incredible view ask for table 109.
