As seen on Travel Channel with Andrew Zimmerman, Aqui es Texcoco is an authentic Mexican restaurant serving Barbacoa de Borrego, since 1990. The TV personality referred to the restaurant as “the best of the best in San Diego County,” and Zagat said it had “the best tacos in 15 U.S. cities.” Texcoco has its first location in Tijuana, next to the soccer field in Mesa de Otay, near the Mexican Border, and its 3rd location in Los Angeles in the city of Commerce.
This is a one-of-a-kind authentic south-of-the-border Mexican dining experience is not to be missed! The house specialty is savory, tender, mouthwatering, long-roasted lamb prepared the traditional way by being wrapped in a Maguey cactus leaf and cooked to perfection in a fire pit. And it is served the same way as it is served in the tiny town of Texcoco, Mexico, which is just north of Mexico City. Add happy, laughing diners, all speaking Spanish, for a special show stopping experience.
A star-studded list of entrées are offered including grilled quail served with a tantalizing sauce, a tantalizing cactus salad, tasty Mexico city-style rolled tacos topped with shredded lettuce and sprinkled with Mexican cheese and of course Barbacoa-style lamb. And their homemade side dishes are made fresh daily too!
Definitely not overrated is a to-die-for-savory lamb broth served with a tiny bit of rice and crunchy garbanzo beans. More entrée selections include traditional quesadillas made with Huitlacoche (Mexican corn truffles) and mushrooms. Also savory is an entrée called Mexiotes, which is meat cooked in parchment paper. It may be lamb, rabbit or chicken. Most meals are served with warm tortillas. Additionally, the restaurant serves one of the only Mexican craft beers called Cucapá.
Be sure to add a savory sangria or one of their popular south-of-the-border beers, which include Corona, DosXX, Modelo, Tecate and Pacifico. If you can, save room for one of their many amazing deserts, be it a scoop of their Jamaica sorbet or their very nice rice pudding. And be sure to top off your meal with a cup of their delicious Mexican coffee accented with a hint of cinnamon.
With its inviting appeal, attentive service and show stopping cuisine, this authentic south-of-the-border Mexican restaurant stands head and shoulders above all the rest.
