Pelly’s is a San Diego original. Owner Dave Marker has championed fish markets as being where to get the freshest fish anywhere. So most of the fish is locally caught. So it’s as fresh as fresh can be. Second, everything is prepared to order, and nothing is fried. So it’s a healthy experience. They even give you a gluten-free option. You can even pick your meal from the fresh fish display and they will prepare it 5 different ways. A great recommendation is their award winning chowder prepared two ways (Boston & Manhattan). For an added touch ask for it to be their Loco-Moco, which is another Pelly’s original. A popular selection is one of their classic fish sandwiches on grilled toast with tartar sauce, shredded lettuce, sliced tomatoes and a large slice of the fresh fish you ordered. Meals are served on plastic plates and people drink out of styrofoam glasses and the napkins are as you’d expect, brown napkins not white. There are two seating areas. One is on a big patio, which is shared with several other restaurants, which is a perfect place to sit on hot summer days. The other seating area is a cozy 8 table nook filled with everything nautical. On the walls are photographs of fish and fishermen.
