Baron Balche: This Winery is a Hidden Treasure

“Barón Balch’é, from Highway 3 take the main road and turn right at the Health Center (IMSS Centro de Salud). It’s the next lot over from Adobe Guadalupe (01152-1-646-183-9501). Open daily 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The name Barón Balch’é, which means “”ceremonial beverage”” in Spanish, is meant to honor the Mayan religion and past kingdoms. Indeed, this winery is a hidden treasure. It features a tasting room, tours and shopping. Plus, they were the first winery in the region to build an underground “”cava”” or wine cellar. Tastings are ($5) and include a special reserve, mezcla tinto and doble blanc wines. They currently produce 120,000 bottles annually of their high-quality wines.
