St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center (SMSC) will present In Good Company, a collection of artworks by local and international artists, at the Poway Center for the Performing Arts (15498 Espola Road, Poway, CA 92064). The show will run from March 4 – 30, 2020, with a public reception on March 21 from 5:00 p.m. to7:00 with live music by Spiritual Storm.
Five regional art programs including Promising Futures, Inc., Sophie’s Gallery, TERI Inc, The Art of Autism, and Revision Creative Workspace and Artbrutkorea a project of five young artists from South Korea will feature artwork from artists who attend their centers. These extraordinary art programs are dedicated to the empowerment of artists by offering an environment where they can explore their talents, grow their craft, and find representation. The Poway Center for the Performing Arts as a community partner is lending its venue with the goal of creating greater awareness of the talents and abilities of persons with developmental disabilities.
St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center serves more than 400 adults with developmental disabilities through nationally recognized, innovative programs. Its mission is to educate and empower individuals with developmental disabilities to realize their full potential. Developmental disabilities include autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy, and other cognitive disorders for which there are no cures.
Sophie’s Gallery, the off-campus art program of St. Madeleine Sophie’s Center, features the artwork of many talented individuals with developmental disabilities. Inside the gallery is a collection of artworks including jewelry, paintings, fused glass, mosaics, textiles, cards, and etc. The gallery, which is also a gift shop, allows SMSC students to showcase their work, earn a paycheck from sales of their artwork, while also raising funds for the art programs.
